{"id":541,"date":"2016-10-25T11:30:38","date_gmt":"2016-10-25T16:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/agrilife.org\/mid-coast-ipm\/?p=541"},"modified":"2016-10-25T10:17:48","modified_gmt":"2016-10-25T15:17:48","slug":"it-is-soil-testing-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/mid-coast-ipm\/it-is-soil-testing-time\/","title":{"rendered":"It is Soil Testing Time!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Soil Fertility Experts at Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Extension Service recommend soil testing fields for soil available nitrogen annually to a depth of 24 inches.\u00a0 I am looking for fields\u00a0 to demonstrate this idea.\u00a0 I want to conduct field trials in Calhoun, Refugio and Victoria counties\u00a0on cotton, corn and grain sorghum.\u00a0 I will do the soil sampling and have analysis done at the Texas A&amp;M Soil Testing Lab.\u00a0 Please contact me to discuss these field demonstrations (361-920-1138).<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, we sampled 53 fields in Calhoun County and found soil nitrogen levels ranging between 9 and 135 lbs N per acre.\u00a0 In a time when farm budgets are being squeezed tightly, this can be a source of reducing costs without affecting yields.\u00a0 You may find this service from several different sources including your IPM program in Calhoun, Refugio and Victoria Counties.<\/p>\n<p>The cost for participation in the IPM soil testing program is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 $75 per field for fields 100 acres or less in size.
