McKensie Harris, Hannah Laird, and Katy Jo Nickelson received the Z.L. Carpenter Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Meat Science at the Animal Science Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 26, 2018. GSF/McDonald’s Specialized Beef 101 at Texas A&M

At the request of Golden State Foods, Texas A&M Department of Animal Science and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Hosted a specialized Beef 101 program for members of the McDonald’s Corporation and their beef suppliers on August 15-17.  Dr. Wayne Morgan, President of Protein Products for Golden State Foods collaborated with Dr. Davey Griffin, professor and Extension Meat Specialist to coordinate the event with a schedule designed to help participants get a snapshot of the beef industry from start to finish. A number of undergraduate and graduate students from the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University participated in the Southwest Meat Association Annual Convention and Suppliers Showcase held at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas, July 19 to 22, 2017. Students receive Bob Ondrusek Memorial, SMA Hall of Honor, and SMA Foundation Scholarships

Twenty-one students from Texas A&M University were the beneficiaries of three different scholarships presented by the Southwest Meat Association at its annual convention: the Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship, the SMA Hall of Honor Scholarship, and the SMA Foundation Scholarship. Boykin, Eastwood, and Harris present at National Beef Quality Audit workshop

Students from the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University participated in the 60th Annual Convention and Supplier’s Showcase of the Southwest Meat Association, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort at Cedar Creek, Texas on July 27-30, 2016. Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship Recipients, 2016-2017

4-H Grilling and Smoking Workshop held June 9, 2016

The first 4-H Grilling and Smoking Workshop was held at the Rosenthal Meat Center on June 9, 2016. The workshop was coordinated by Davey Griffin with assistance from Dan Hale, Chris Kerth, and Jeff Savell from the Department of Animal Science. Meat Science graduate students gain valuable leadership skills by working with programs such as Beef 706. Beef 706 is sponsored by the Texas Beef Council on behalf of the Beef Checkoff, is hosted by the Department of Animal Science, and is a producer-education program where those in the beef production industry learn first-hand about the ultimate product they are producing.
