Students receive Bob Ondrusek Memorial, SMA Hall of Honor, and SMA Foundation Scholarships
Twenty-one students from Texas A&M University were the beneficiaries of three different scholarships presented by the Southwest Meat Association at its annual convention: the Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship, the SMA Hall of Honor Scholarship, and the SMA Foundation Scholarship. Students attend Southwest Meat Association 60th Convention
Students from the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University participated in the 60th Annual Convention and Supplier’s Showcase of the Southwest Meat Association, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort at Cedar Creek, Texas on July 27-30, 2016. Adam Murray and Dylan Tucker served as student assistants at the convention, and Kenna Turner is serving as a summer intern for the Southwest Meat Association. Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship Recipients, 2016-2017
The Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship, which was begun in 2000 by the SMA Foundation, is the greatest source of scholarship funds for undergraduate and graduate students interested in meat science in the U.S. Bob Ondrusek left a lasting impression and impact on so many people through his business, Columbia Packing Company in Dallas, and through his charitable and personal support of the Southwest Meat Association, FFA, 4-H, and many other associations and activities. Meat Judging Team competes at Eastern National Meat Judging Contest, October 3, 2015
The 2015 Texas A&M University Meat Judging Team recently returned from the 2015 Eastern National Meat Judging Contest held in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, hosted by Cargill Meat Solutions. Meat Science faculty and students participate in SMA Convention, 2015
The 59th Annual Convention of the Southwest Meat Association was held at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, July 22-25, 2015, and several Meat Science faculty and students were in attendance making new connections or reconnecting with meat industry leaders, helping with the convention, or receiving scholarships including the Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship, the SMIKids Scholarship, and the SMA Foundation Graduate Scholarship. Meat Science Quiz Bowl Team competes at Reciprocal Meat Conference in Lincoln, Nebraska
The Texas A&M University Quiz Bowl Team competed at the American Meat Science Association Reciprocal Meat Conference at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday, June 13, 2015. Two four-member teams went deep in the double-elimination tournament before they were eliminated. The team was selected in May from a group of students who first attended a Quiz Bowl information meeting in January, 2015. Eastwood, Olson receive International Livestock Congress travel fellowships
Graduate student Clay Eastwood and undergraduate student Cameron Olson were each chosen to attend the 2015 International Livestock Congress held March 4-5, 2015 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Eastwood and Olson were among 12 students chosen from around the world to attend the international meeting as part of the Travel Fellowship Program. This year marked the 30th anniversary of the ILC, which brought together 175 scientists and agriculturalists from 21 countries.
