JC Essler is the Poultry Programs Administrator for the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL). He has served in the role of Poultry Programs
Administrator since August 2007 and coordinates the TVMDL Poultry Programs between the College Station, Center, and Gonzales laboratories. In his position, he manages and promotes the Texas Pullorum-Typhoid Program by coordinating four Poultry Epidemiologists throughout the state. He also serves as the state coordinator for the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP). Through this position, he teaches short courses to commercial poultry companies in Texas as well as checks compliance of NPIP hatcheries, processing plans and labs for Texas. He also works with other state coordinators to allow poultry movement to and from other states. He serves as an advisor for the Texas Poultry Federation Board and works cooperatively with the Texas Poultry Improvement Board and the Texas Poultry Improvement Association.

JC received the TVMDL’s Director’s Excellence Award in 2011. He is a 2000 graduate of Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Poultry Science. Prior to his current position, he started his career with TVMDL as a Poultry Epidemiologist in 2002 serving the South Texas region.

JC and his wife, Kelly, reside in Bryan with their son Jimmy.
