Insect Identification Form

This service is intended for Texas residents for the identification of pest insects in the home, yard, garden or farm, or that affect people, pets or livestock.

You have entered this site to submit an insect or pest image for identification. In order to receive information on your image you must fill out all required questions (as indicated by the *). We will respond as quickly as we can to your request, although our entomologists have many responsibilities and may not be able to provide same day response. NOTE: By submitting an image or images for identification, you agree to allow the Texas A&M Department of Entomology and/or Texas AgriLife Extension to use it/them for educational purposes including, but not limited to, teaching, Extension presentations and on our social media and insect identification platforms. Photographer credit will be given.

  • Insect identification is a fee-based service. Here is the process: 1) pay the $5 fee with a credit card at our online store and copy the ORDER NUMBER from your receipt, 2) return here and enter your order number in the box below, then complete the rest of this web form and submit your request.

  • You may load up to three images per sample. Well-lit, in-focus pictures are best. Use the close-up (macro) option on your camera and get as close to the insect as possible. When available, include the pest, damage and/or host plant.
