These microorganisms are vectors for diseases such as hepatitis A, gastroenteritis, giardia, cryptosporidium, typhoid and cholera.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-170\" src=\"http:\/\/agrilife.org\/highlandbayou\/files\/2013\/06\/warning-sign-boating-262x300.jpg\" alt=\"warning-sign-boating\" width=\"262\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/highlandbayou\/files\/2013\/06\/warning-sign-boating-262x300.jpg 262w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/highlandbayou\/files\/2013\/06\/warning-sign-boating.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Boat sewage contains nutrients, such as nitrogen. These nutrients can be used by aquatic plants and algae to grow and spread in the form of blooms.<\/p>\n<p>Along the coast, shellfish beds can be affected by bacteria that enter the water from boat sewage. The bacteria also consumes oxygen which can deplete oxygen levels needed by aquatic organisms.<\/p>\n<p>Affects the economy.
