\n<\/a>The shooting sports project gives a comprehensive introduction to shooting safety and fundamentals of the archery, muzzle loading, pistol, rifle and shotgun disciplines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Importantly, the 4-H shooting sports program is effective for engaging youth-at-risk and attracting new audiences\u00a0(Sabo\u00a0& Hamilton, 1997<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The project aims for\u00a04-H youth\u00a0to:
\n<\/strong>\u2014 Appreciate\u00a0our natural resources \u00a0<\/span>
\n \u2014\u00a0Develop a positive self-concept \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>
\n \u2014\u00a0Rise to high standards of safety and sportsmanship<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In keeping with these high standards, and as\u00a0with all other 4-H\u00a0competitive opportunities and events, youth in the Shooting Sports Program must maintain academic eligibility in order to compete. Please submit the 4-H Eligibility Form in a timely\u00a0fashion to ensure your\u00a0youth\u00a0can showcase\u00a0their hard work.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, in order to maintain consistency within 4-H and specifically promote youth development, coaches MUST be<\/strong>\u00a04-H certified.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span>View the Texas 4-H Shooting Sports page<\/a> for more information on upcoming trainings and fees.<\/span><\/p>\n

4-H\u00a0Training is open to prospective:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 4-H\u00a0Shooting Sports Coaches: Enrolled 4-H adult leaders at least 21 years\u00a0old<\/span>
\n \u2022 4-H Shooting Sports Assistant<\/em> Coaches: Enrolled 4-H adult leaders, 18-20 years old or\u00a0<\/strong>4-H youth members in 9-12th <\/sup>grade (under the supervision of a 4-H certified coach)<\/span><\/p>\n
