The primary focus is nursery production of native wetland and coastal prairie plants to be used in GI projects. Other topics covered include watershed and non-point source pollution issues in communities, what is green infrastructure (including its purposes and variety of practices). The goal is for students to identify green infrastructure practices suitable for different areas and be able to obtain <a href=\"https:\/\/ngicp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Green Infrastructure Certification Program<\/a> certification upon graduation from High School if they so choose. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #56565a; font-size: 23px;\">There are <strong>weekly field trips<\/strong> to local GI project sites as well as presentations by <strong>industry professionals<\/strong> who have volunteered to share about their jobs and projects. <strong>Much of our learning will be hands on<\/strong> and experiential in nature. Students are asked to complete an individual project, a group project and give a presentation of what they learned at the conclusion of the 12-week session. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #56565a; font-size: 23px;\">At the conclusion of the student&#8217;s participation in the program, interns will receive a <strong>$500 stipend<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/gift\/files\/2024\/08\/Recruitment-Flyer.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1913 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/gift\/files\/2022\/08\/Program-Flyer-Button_web.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"419\" height=\"91\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/gift\/files\/2022\/08\/Program-Flyer-Button_web.png 419w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/gift\/files\/2022\/08\/Program-Flyer-Button_web-300x65.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 419px) 100vw, 419px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #500000;\"><strong>Schedule<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #56565a; font-size: 23px;\">Each internship consists of a 12-week session. There are three sessions for each of the next two school years (2022-23 and 2023-24). Each session will have up to 10 students, limitations are due to the workspace available at the wetland nurseries where students will be working. This years sessions are scheduled for:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #56565a; font-size: 23px;\">Sept. 19 &#8211; Dec. 19, 2024 <em>(application open due Sept. 13, 2024)<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #56565a; font-size: 23px;\">Interns will meet 2 days a week on Tuesday and Thursday. <\/span><span style=\"color: #56565a; font-size: 23px;\">Interns should arrive at 4:30pm and will return to the office by 7:00pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #500000;\"><strong>Where do we meet?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #56565a; font-size: 23px;\">The Texas Community Watershed Partners AgriLife offices at <strong>1335 Regents Park Dr. Suite 260 Houston, TX 77058<\/strong>. Transportation to and from this program is not provided, and is required to participate.
