This event mimics some of the \u201cIron Chef\u201d concepts while showcasing 4-H project skills.<br \/>\nAt the Food Challenge, teams of 3-4 students receive a list of ingredients and have 40 minutes to create a dish. The teams then present their dish to judges which are scored on preparation, serving size, food safety concerns, nutritional value and cost. Students qualify at the district level to compete at the state contest. The sumo format will test teams\u2019 strategy, engineering design, and programming skills. Teams will bring a fully assembled and programmed robot to compete against others in the tournament until a winner is declared.<\/p>\n<p>Two robots will \u201cwrestle\u201d in a dohy\u014d (sumo ring) designed for robots. As with human Sumo wrestling, the goal of sumo-style robotics is to gain leverage over an opponent and force it out of the ring.<br \/>\nPlease note, this is NOT a \u201cbattle bots\u201d style competition. Senior Division MUST qualify at County to participate at State)<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>Seniors qualifying for state &#8211; Fort Bend County may enter only one photo per category for a total of 18 entries. Therefore, the top senior photo in each category may be entered into the state contest. State Contest Registration on 4HOnline and Submittable Opens: April 1, 2026 &amp; Closes: April 15, 2026 at 11:59 pm.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/texas4-h.tamu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/photography_state_contest_2025_2026.pdf\">State Contest Rules<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>General Rules:<\/strong><br \/>\nAll photos must be printed and securely\/permanently mounted on an 8&#215;10 solid photographic mount board or a board of like thickness and suitable for hanging without an additional frame.<\/p>\n<p>Color and Black &amp; White photos are allowed in all categories. Although slight computer enhancements are allowed, such as cropping, minor adjustment of lighting, and red eye reduction; substantially altered photography, such as applying design styles, or using computer graphics will disqualify an entry. Any other alteration, manipulation, or edits to a photo would require the photo to be entered into the Enhanced category.<\/p>\n<p>The entry must be the original photographic work of the 4-H member and not a photo taken by family members, other 4-H members, or secured from any other printed\/electronic source. Any photo proven to be found as not original work will result in disqualification of ALL the 4-H member\u2019s entries into the Photography Contest.<\/p>\n<p>Only 1 entry per category will be allowed, with a maximum of 10 overall. The 4-H members participating in the contest will judge 5 classes of photographs and problems, testing both the participant\u2019s knowledge and skills in the photography project. Participants will then explain their placings, practicing their public speaking skills through oral reasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contest Rules:<\/strong><br \/>\nOral reasons are part of the Roundup Photography Judging contest. The scores from the reasons portion of the contest will be added to the judging score to determine placings.<\/p>\n<p>Reasons should be no more than 2 minutes long. Oral reasons will be presented over 2 classes, one judging and one problem class. After scoring all 5 classes, youth will then transition into the reasons portion of the contest. Contestants will have the opportunity to explore all five of these projects while preparing for the 4-H Wildlife Challenge. Contestants will compete as individuals in their respective age division (Clover Kids, Junior, Intermediate or Senior). Each activity may cover any of the specified information within the 4-H Natural Resources project area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resources<\/strong><br \/>\nThe D9 Wildlife Skillathon resources document will be posted on the District 9 Wildlife Skillathon website: <a href=\"https:\/\/d94-h.tamu.edu\/eventsandcontests\/bigtime\/wildlife-challenge\/\">https:\/\/d94-h.tamu.edu\/eventsandcontests\/bigtime\/wildlife-challenge\/<\/a><\/p>\n<details>\n<summary><strong>Wildlife Skillathon Contest Activities<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p><strong>Identification:<\/strong> Contestants will identify animals and trees from pictures or actual specimens such as leaves, fruit\/ nuts, skulls, skins, wings, specimen mounts, tracks, calls, scat, etc. Contestants will identify equipment\/components that may be found within any of the project resources (i.e. \u2013 fishing equipment, shooting\/ hunting equipment, insect collecting equipment, wildlife habitat management equipment, forestry equipment, etc.). 20 item identification with word bank.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge and Skills Assessments:<\/strong> Contestants will answer multiple choice\/yes or no\/true or false questions found within the project area resources or demonstrate a skill. The questions may include but are not limited to knowledge needed for fishing, hunting, insect collection and display, firearm handling, forest evaluation, and wildlife habitat evaluation. Contestants could identify wildlife habitat concepts, wildlife habitat components, and wildlife management practices from photos or in field examples. Contestants could be asked to demonstrate a task, such as how to tie a square knot. Other examples include gear judging and\/or filling out a deer tag hunting license.<\/p>\n<p>Seniors will answer 20 test questions\/skills, intermediate will answer 15 test questions\/skills, juniors will answer 10 test questions\/skills, and Clover Kids will answer 5 questions\/skills.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary><strong>Shooting Sports Skillathon (Junior, Intermediate, Senior ONLY)<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>In the shooting sports project, youth learn about a variety of shooting sports disciplines, proper maintenance and use of equipment, parts and accessories identification, proper safety procedures, laws and ethics related to shooting and hunting, and careers related to shooting sports.<br \/>\nThe County 4-H Shooting Sports Skillathon tests a contestant\u2019s knowledge of range and equipment safety, equipment and range ID, and shooting sports skills. The contest is focused on safety and shooting sports knowledge, there will be no target shooting. Resources for the contests are listed below. Contestants select the correct identification of each product from four possible answers. Following the product identification, each station has one multiple-choice question pertaining to the product on display.
