SUMMARY:Texas 4-H Entomology Collection Contest DEADLINE
DESCRIPTION:There have been a few glitches found in the way I set up the registration on the Entomology Collection Contest setup in 4-H CONNECT. We will leave registration open through tomorrow at 5pm so families have a chance to get everything loaded now that the errors have been corrected. \n\nThe Texas 4-H Entomology Collection Contest is now open on 4-H CONNECT. It will be a virtual contest this year. Originally it was scheduled that the entomology collections would be dropped off during Texas 4-H Roundup.  With the cancellation of that event\, Molly Keck along with others were able to come up with a way to continue the contest through photo submissions of the completed collections. \n4-H members will not only be learning about entomology\, but also learning more about photography through this contest experience. \nThe contest is open to Junior\, Intermediate and Senior level 4-H members. We have attached the updated guidelines along with the photo submission form information. The information will also be posted to our Texas 4-H website soon at https://texas4-h.tamu.edu/projects/entomology/. \nGuidelines \nSubmission Form

SUMMARY:Texas 4-H Virtual LEAD Academy DEADLINE
DESCRIPTION:The format of the 2020 Texas 4-H Virtual LEAD Academy will offer concurrent workshops over the course of two-days focused on these topic areas. Unlike the face-to-face event\, this year’s Virtual LEAD Academy will be offering workshops targeting Intermediate and Senior Age 4-H members along with Adults. Many of the sessions offered however will still be targeting High School Age Youth and noted on the session descriptions. \nRegistration through 4-H CONNECT is required for all sessions. Participants will receive the link to participate in the sessions June 5th via email. \nNo Fee Registration: May 15-27\, 2020 \nLEAD Academy Workshop Details and Schedule (Please review before beginning the registration process on 4-H CONNECT to help you plan what workshops you would like to attend) \nAbout LEAD Academy: \nLEAD Academy is geared towards 4-H members who are currently in the 9th – 12th grades (as of the current 4-H year). Youth will have an opportunity to learn about college opportunities and what it takes to get there\, serve their community\, and gain valuable life skills in a true college setting. Our goal of this activity will be to provide the opportunity for young people to connect\, learn\, engage\, lead and impact their communities\, their country and their world. The event will be designed to engage youth in hands-on educational activities in which they explore\, practice and master existing and newly developed skills/knowledge in civic engagement\, civic education and personal development. The objective is to provide youth a broad-based learning experience in which they will acquire practical knowledge and skills to reinforce the attitudes and motivation that will give them a heightened sense of responsibility and capacity to connect as active members of their communities\, nation and world. From this experience\, we hope the youth attending will apply what was learned in their real world experiences in which they develop leadership skills using their voices\, work\, ideas and/or behavior to make a difference in their community\, country and world. \nAdult attendees will have the chance to connect with other volunteers and parents.  Our goal is to provide useful information for 4-H volunteers and parents so they may learn how to improve their skills as a 4-H leader in their community.  The event is designed to provide workshops that are practical and helpful to adults involved with the 4-H program.  From this experience\, we hope our 4-H volunteers will be able to apply what they learn to continue to help our members grow into productive members of society that make a positive impact in their lives and communities. \n*2020 LEAD Academy will look a little different. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 situation\, all events held at Texas A&M University have been canceled through July 31st. This impacted our Texas 4-H Roundup/LEAD Academy event. This year our event will be a virtual experience!! We feel the information provide through our LEAD Academy is valuable and we wanted to continue to provide this opportunity to our 4-H members\, families and volunteers.

SUMMARY:Texas 4-H Livestock and Equine Ambassador Application DEADLINE
DESCRIPTION:The Texas 4-H Livestock and Equine Ambassador Programs are coming off another stellar year. In 2019\, we were excited to host a Livestock Ambassador Short Course in partnership with Texas A&M Kingsville. The program was an unquestioned success and we are going back in 2020! The Equine Ambassador Program also plowed new ground by moving the short course to Texas A&M University – a move that was very well received. In late July\, 25 Ambassadors boarded a plane in Dallas headed for the west coast. We traveled to Oregon and California on an domestic agricultural experience. With visits to family farms\, historic ranches\, feedlot tours and various production facilities\, Ambassadors were able to immerse themselves in the intense agricultural production systems of California. Ambassadors left the experience with a better understanding of dynamic agricultural production in a unique regulatory environment. As rewarding as it was for our Ambassadors to be recognized nationally\, the program is successful only because of outstanding work you lead locally. \nClick here to view the Ambassador Booklet! \n2020 Short Course Offering: \n\nTexas 4-H Equine Ambassador Short Course\, West Texas A&M – June 14-17\, 2020\nTexas 4-H Livestock Ambassador Short Course\, Texas A&M Kingsville – June 22-25\, 2020\nTexas 4-H Livestock Ambassador Short Course\, Texas Tech/ West Texas A&M – July 13-16\, 2020\nTexas 4-H Livestock Ambassador Short Course\, Texas A&M – July 20-23\, 2020\n\nSelection Criteria: \n\nSenior age (14-18) 4-H youth that have exhibited a superior level of ambition regarding his/her livestock/equine projects\nStudents with a profound interest in animal/equine science\, animal production and advocacy\nStudents have shown advanced leadership qualities and a willingness to help others\nTop 25% class rank\n\nApplication Process: \n\nApplicant goes to:\n\nLivestock https://agrilife.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b9knd7h0VXkbNKB\nEquine https://agrilife.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eVUuz6NEngnkqsB\n\n\nStudent will complete the application and enter the contact information of supervising County Extension Agent\nCEA will be automatically emailed a recommendation survey\nA selection committee will review the applications and accept up to 25 participants per short course\nApplications are due May 1\, 2020
