By learning these skills you will be better prepared to own forest land or deal with environmental issues in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">In preparation for the National 4-H Forestry Invitational, you will learn the following skills:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">Tree identification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">Tree measurement<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">Forest evaluation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">Compass orienteering<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">Topographic map use<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">Forest insect and disease identification<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"contests\" class=\"tab-content entry-content current\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4hforestryinvitational.org\/about\"><u>National 4-H Forestry Invitational<\/u><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">The National 4-H Forestry Invitational is the national championship of 4-H forestry. Each year, since 1980, teams of 4-H Foresters gather at Jackson\u2019s Mill State 4-H Conference Center at Weston, WV, to meet, compete, and have fun. Jackson\u2019s Mill is the boyhood home of General Thomas \u201cStonewall\u201d Jackson, hero of the Civil War, and a historic setting for the Invitational. Jackson\u2019s Mill State 4-H Conference Center is the first and oldest 4-H camp in the United States and is operated by West Virginia University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino,serif;\">This contest is a three day competition involving tree measurement, tree identification, forest evaluation, the use of a compass and topographic maps, identification of tree insects and diseases, and finally the forestry bowl and the written exam.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Texas 4-H Forestry Future tree climbers and treehouses rely on you!
