Indoor flies

Several different types of flies can be found indoors, from tiny fungus gnats, fruit and drain flies, to mosquitoes, house flies and blow flies.  Each type of indoor fly breeds in a unique place.  For this reason, it’s important to know what kind of fly you have before you can learn how to control it.

Flies can be distinguished from all other insects by only having two wings. All flies go through complete metamorphosis, so the immature stage looks very different from the adult.  All fly larvae (immatures) are legless, and most have very thin cuticles giving them a pale or translucent appearance.  Generally fly larvae must breed in moist places, such as in a drain, in wet garbage, or an animal carcass.  Check the f@ctsheets below to learn more about whatever fly is bothering you.
