District 4-H Judging Contests (Range Evaluation, Pasture ID, Soils, Wool & Mohair) – DUE

Range Evaluation, Pasture ID, Soils, Wool & Mohair Judging is Wednesday, April 29th in Junction. Mohair Judging and Evaluation – Judge two classes of mohair and complete an evaluation form on each class. Evaluate 20 fleeces for grade, staple length and yield. Range & Pasture Grass Identification – Identify and classify 40 to 50 live or mounted grass specimens according to their life span, season of growth, origin, and grazing value for livestock and wildlife.  A grass list is available from Dr. Barron Rector.     Range Evaluation – Contestants identify 20 to 40 range plants; determine use, condition, site and practices for range area; and evaluate four range plots.  A master plant list is available from Dr. Barron Rector.   Soil Judging – Judge four soil profiles with 20 minutes allowed for each.  Determine the soil characteristics of the profiles and make interpretations based on observation.  Wool Judging & Evaluation – Judge two classes of wool and complete an evaluation form on each class.  Evaluate 20 fleeces for grade, staple length and yield.

These judging contests are for teams of 3 – 4 members or an individual in each 4-H age division.  Juniors –  8 – 10, Intermediates –  11-13 and Seniors –  14-19 all ages as of August 31, 2014.  Registration will be done through our office, please complete the entry form here, form and entry are due to our office by Monday, Mar. 30th.   Cost is $40/team (3-4 members) or $10 per individual.  Please pay by cash or check (make check payable to Bexar 4-H Council).
