DIVISION Q – PHOTOGRAPHY<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>SPECIAL RULES:<\/b><\/p>\n

Photos must be turned in from 2:00-6:00 pm on Saturday, Feb. 7th in the lobby of the Assembly Hall at Cadence Bank Center.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

**Photography will NOT be entered digitally.
\n1. Photo MUST be taken by exhibitor (exhibitor must not be in photo).
\nSubmit only one entry per class. Photos must be taken after
\nFebruary 8, 2025.
\n2. Photography will be judged on impact, creativity, technical aspects,
\ncomposition, and print quality. Make sure your photo meets class
\ndefinitions.
\n3. All entries must be printed on 5\u201d x 7\u201d photo paper, securely affixed
\non a solid white 7\u201d X 9\u201d mount board or foam board (see sample in
\nfair book). Any other backer board will be disqualified. See
\ninstructions for mounting photos on BCYF website.
\n4. The photo may be gloss or matte.
\n5. Photos must NOT be framed, and no glass or plexiglass is allowed,
\nthese will be disqualified.
\n6. A label with the exhibitor number and class will be affixed to the back
\nof the foam board.
\n7. ONLY the following MINOR digital manipulation is allowed: red-eye
\ncorrection, cropping, and straightening of photo. If using a
\nsmartphone for photography entry, filters should not be used.
\n8. Any exhibitor submitting a photograph acknowledges that they have
\nsufficient permission of any recognizable location\/people appearing
\nin the photo and can produce a model\/property release if requested.
\n9. If the same photo is entered by siblings, or by two
\nexhibitors, both individuals will be disqualified.
\n10. Photography will NOT be moved from one class to
\nanother. Any photo submitted to the wrong class will
\nbe disqualified.
\nDEFINITIONS:<\/span>
\nANIMALS-DOMESTIC<\/strong>: Photos focusing on the various
\nanimals that have been tamed and made fit for a human
\nenvironment. To be considered domesticated, the animal
\nmust have their behavior, life cycle, or physiology
\nsystemically altered as a result of being under human control
\nfor many generations.
\nExamples include Chickens, cows, dogs, cats, geese\/ducks
\n(domestic use), hamsters, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, etc.
\nANIMALS\u2014WILDLIFE:<\/strong> Category focuses on animals not
\ntamed or domesticated and commonly found in the
\nwilderness or the bodies of water throughout the country or
\nworld. Photos can be of wildlife in nature, zoos, and\/or
\npetting zoos.
\nExamples include: Birds, deer, elephants, snakes, whales,
\netc.
\nCATCH-ALL:<\/strong> Photos that do not fit into one of the other
\ncategories. NOT ALLOWED: A duplicate photo also entered
\nin another category. Examples: Polaroid image & emulsion
\ntransfers, still-life (inanimate objects), flat lay photography.
\nDETAILS & MACRO<\/strong>: Getting in close is the name of the
\ngame for this category. The goal is to zoom in close on an
\nobject to see its finer details or to make small objects appear
\nlife-sized or larger that we do not normally get to see with the
\nnaked eye. Examples: Insect eyes, veins on a leaf, a
\nreflection in a water droplet, etc.
\nELEMENTS OF DESIGN:<\/strong> Images use of graphic elements
\nof design. Photos that showcase line, shape, pattern, form,
\ntexture, perspective, etc. Photo can consist of any subject
\nmatter.
\nExamples: Line, pattern, perspective, shape, etc.
\nNOT ALLOWED: Digital creations or graphic designs made
\nin software such as Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator
\nFOOD:<\/strong> A still life specialization of photography, aimed at
\nproducing attractive photographs of food for use in such
\nitems of advertisements, packaging, menus and\/or
\ncookbooks.
\nExamples: Cakes\/pies, Easter eggs, fruits and place
\nsettings, ingredients, sandwiches, Thanksgiving dinner, etc.
\nNot allowed: A photo of alcohol beverages.
\nLANDSCAPE & NATURE (NON-ANIMAL):<\/strong> The focus of this
\ncategory includes landscapes, outdoor scenic, nature
\nimages, sunsets, urban landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes,
\nand farms. Images focus on the beauty of the outdoors.
\nExamples: Gardens\/landscapes, outdoors, scenic, etc. Not
\nallowed: Primary subject is a person or wildlife.
\nPage 121
\nLeading Line:<\/strong> This image composition technique features
\nlines that draw the viewer\u2019s eye from point A to point B, which
\nis the primary subject. Example: A river that begins in the
\nforeground and draws your attention to a photogenic bridge
\nin the background.
\nMotion\/Action:<\/strong> The capture of movement within a single
\nphoto. The subject appears stopped or frozen. Examples:
\nFerris wheel spinning, sporting events, horse running across
\na field, etc.
\nPeople:<\/strong> People focus from all walks of life, parenting and
\nfamily, children, babies, models\/fashion, and couples. All
\nindividuals in the photos must have provided consent and
\npermission as a subject. If requested, a release will be
\nneeded from the photographer and subject. Examples:
\nBabies, families, kids, portraits, models\/fashion, etc.
\nPlant\/Flora:<\/strong> Photos of interesting, unique, and beautiful
\nflowers and flora. Photography can take place outdoors or
\nindoors. Photo subject should be that of a single flower, plant,
\nbush, tree, etc. Large collections of plant\/flora should be
\nconsidered for entry in the Nature & Landscape category.
\nExamples: A rose, an upward shot of a tree, etc.
\nShadow\/Silhouette:<\/strong> A silhouette is an outline that appears
\ndark (typically a single color) with little or no details\/features
\nagainst a brighter background. Recording patterns of light
\nand shade for a desired effect or emphasis is the definition of
\na shadow. The silhouette or shadow must be the primary
\nsubject and focus of the
\nimage. Examples: shadows\/silhouettes of people, plants,
\nanimals, structures, architectures, or natural structures.<\/p>\n
