Chapter Advisors and County Extension Agents can enter teams through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judgingcard.com\">https:\/\/www.judgingcard.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration: <\/strong>8:00\u20148:30 AM; Equine &amp; Livestock Exposition Building<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contest Begins<\/strong>: 9:00 AM<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contest Results &amp; Awards<\/strong>: Immediately following tabulation, approximately 1:00 PM.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong>\u00a0 The veterinary science Skillathon is a competitive event designed to test the knowledge and skill that a youth can gain through his\/her involvement in a veterinary science project.\u00a0 Ultimately the goal is to develop the interest, knowledge, skills, and experiences for a youth to pursue a career in veterinary medicine or research field.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contest Components:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 <em>\u00a0<\/em>Contestants<\/strong> can compete as individuals or as teams of up to four (4).<\/p>\n<p>Team scores will be calculated using the highest three scores.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Written Exam:<\/strong> questions will be taken from Dr. Faries book, <strong>Veterinary<\/strong> Science: Preparatory Training for the <strong>Veterinary<\/strong> Assistant. See Texas FFA rules for Chapters being covered for the current year. The exam will consist of 50 questions worth two (2) points each for a total of one hundred (100) points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Identification (ID<\/strong>): This portion of the contest will be broken down into three categories: Breeds (25), Instruments (25) and Parasites\/Microscopic\/Internal Organs (25). Each ID is worth ten (10) points each for a total of 750 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Practicum\/Skills<\/strong>: \u00a0The skills portion of the contest is a hands-on component. Participants will perform the skill individually. Instructions and time constraints will be according to the Texas FFA rules and rubrics can be found on their website. The skills portion is judged by outside professionals and is worth one hundred (100) points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math Applications Exam<\/strong>: is a practicum portion designed to evaluate the contestant\u2019s knowledge of math applications. Questions may include conversions, dose calculations, dilutions, cost calculations, and invoices. The number of written practicum questions will be limited to five. This portion is worth a total of fifty (50) points.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>There will only be one age division<\/em><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3rd\u201412th grades are eligible to compete.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Contest Awards:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Champion &amp; Reserve Champion teams will receive a banner.<\/p>\n<p>High Point Individual &amp; Reserve High Point Individual will receive a belt buckle.<\/p>\n<p>2<sup>nd<\/sup> \u2013 5<sup>th<\/sup> in teams and individuals will receive ribbons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Buckle Sponsors<\/u><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dr. Matt Wright \u2013<\/em><\/strong>High Point Individual<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>SilverLeaf Vet.
