The seventh year of ANSC 117, Texas Barbecue, kicked off on Friday, September 4, 2015 for new class of 27 freshmen. As has been the tradition since the second year of this class, a group of students who took the class as freshmen return to help as teaching assistants working in set up, cooking, and clean up, but most importantly, as valuable mentors to this year’s freshmen regarding making it at Texas A&M University.
The Super Sophomores this year are Carley Armstrong, Colton Bausch, Abby Chrz, Terrica Green, Marti Hanson, Jordan Hevner, Maddison Holder, Emily June Kelley, Amanda Lanier, Ty Robertson, Vanessa Sanchez, Shelby Schiefelbein, Libby Schneider, and Lorenzo Washington.
As the Super Sophomores were introduced, Ray Riley and I presented them with their Texas Barbecue polo shirts. These shirts are reserved for the faculty and students who work in the Texas Barbecue program, the class, Barbecue Summer Camp, Camp Brisket, and other barbecue-education activities. The Super Sophomores have been waiting since the end of last year’s class to get their polos, and they were excited to receive them. The Super Sophomores put on their polos and joined the Jazzy Juniors and Snazzy Seniors as full-fledged members of the ANSC 117 Texas Barbecue instructor team.
