The plan should address<strong> prevention,   training,<\/strong> and\u00a0 <strong>response.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Preventive<\/strong> measures should include procedures for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preventing bat entry<\/li>\n<li>Preventing human\/bat contact<\/li>\n<li>Preventing rabies transmission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Training<\/strong> steps should include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Designating and training responders for each campus or facility<\/li>\n<li>Educating all faculty, staff, and students on who to contact and what to do if a bat has been sighted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>response <\/strong>plan for dealing with bats found on school property should  include procedures for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Removing a single bat<\/li>\n<li>Responding to a bat bite<\/li>\n<li>Responding to a rabies confirmation<\/li>\n<li>Removing a bat colony<\/li>\n<li>Working with private contractors if necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To prepare for incidents with potentially rabid animals, school  officials should also develop templates for parent notification and  student education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>School officials and integrated pest management (IPM) coordinators should implement a bat management plan to prevent potential health problems associated with bats and to respond quickly and appropriately to bat sightings.
