Color:<\/strong> Medium-sized bat with deep mahogany fur that is frosted at the tips, giving the bat a distinct reddish-maroon hue, unlike the\u00a0reddish orange of eastern red bats.<\/p>\n

Roosting behavior:<\/strong> Usually roosts alone and in Spanish moss.<\/p>\n

Emerges from its daytime roost early in the evening and forages among or above the crowns of the trees, over watercourses, and around clearings.<\/p>\n

Does not hibernate in the true sense; is active throughout the winter when weather permits.<\/p>\n
