Legal &amp; Economic Considerations for Direct Beef Sales<\/h3>\n<p>The impacts of COVID-19 on cattle and beef markets led many ranchers to seek more direct access to consumers. Prior to 2020 consumers were already expressing a growing desire to establish a closer connection to their food. COVID-19 and the arrival of empty grocery store shelves only increased this desire in consumers.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, faculty of Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Extension and the National Agricultural Law Center came together to publish &#8220;Where&#8217;s the Beef? Legal &amp; Economic Considerations for Direct Beef Sales&#8221;. This book, funded through the Southern Risk Management Education Center (SRMEC) and its associated workshops are intended to educate producers on how to plan a business that caters to consumers purchasing beef directly from a rancher.<\/p>\n<p>Topics include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Goal setting<\/li>\n<li>Beef sales methods<\/li>\n<li>Intended markets<\/li>\n<li>Slaughter facility selection<\/li>\n<li>Labeling considerations and marketing claims<\/li>\n<li>Permits<\/li>\n<li>Liability protection<\/li>\n<li>Enterprise selection<\/li>\n<li>Budgets<\/li>\n<li>Price setting<\/li>\n<li>Risk management<\/li>\n<li>Thoughts from experienced producers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This resource includes worksheets and sample budgets for use in developing a direct beef sales business.
