Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) and Local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD)
Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) are a resource for agricultural landowners to assess conservation issues on their land and develop solutions to these issues.
The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) is the lead administrative organization for SWCDs. Each of the 216 SWCDs in Texas is governed by directors elected by local district landowners.
TSSWCB funds program specialists which meet with districts monthly and advise SWCDs on conservation practices and the latest applicable state and federal laws. This education is passed on through technical assistance provided to landowners.
SWCDs provide technical assistance directly to their district’s agricultural producers. This is often provided in cooperation with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). They will also assist with development of a Water Quality Management Plan.
Getting Started:
Landowners and operators should seek assistance at the local Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). The SWCD will consult with the landowner to determine what conservation issues are currently impacting the landowner and to develop solutions to these issues.
