Student Worker Positions

Undergraduate student worker positions are often available to provide program and project support. Students should have a strong interest in municipal parks and excellent organizational and communication skills.

Student workers typically:

  • Assist with organization and development of web resources including print materials, links, and pod casts.
  • Organize and maintain social media efforts.
  • Arrange meetings with Extension unit members and collaborators.
  • Edit publications and print materials.
  • Organize and distribute information to constituents.
  • Assist with researching, compiling, and creating educational materials.
  • Provide research project support such as:
    • Collecting and organizing contact information.
    • Assisting with survey design.
    • Assisting with survey distribution.
    • Enter and clean data.
    • Provide office assistance for programs and general communication.
    • Assist with other duties and projects as needed.

Independent Studies

Undergraduate students enrolled at Texas A&M University are encouraged to complete independent study work related to the goals of Extension’s Urban and Municipal Park programs. Independent study work must be agreed upon and approved by Dr. Jamie Rae Walker.

Class Projects

RPTS undergraduate classes often collaborate with Extension outreach programs. Two recent examples include the Green Efforts Podcast Series created by RPTS 209 and the RPTS 402 KidsFit Project School Trail designs in Fort Worth, TX.

Internships

Undergraduate students studying recreation and parks or a related field are encouraged to apply for internships during the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. The goal of our intern program is to create an opportunity for hands-on, applied learning.

Unless assigned to an off-site project, students will work in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences at Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Dallas, TX. In addition to project responsibilities, student interns are expected to:

  • Assist with organization and development of web resources including print materials, links, and pod casts.
  • Organize and maintain social media efforts.
  • Arrange meetings with Extension unit members and collaborators.
  • Edit publications and print materials.
  • Organize and distribute information to constituents.
  • Assist with researching, compiling, and creating educational materials.
  • Provide research project support such as:
    • Collecting and organizing contact information.
    • Assisting with survey design.
    • Assisting with survey distribution.
    • Entering data, clean data, and help evaluate data.
    • Provide office assistance as needed.
    • Assist with other duties and projects as needed.

 Project Examples

  • Creating a pod cast series
  • Assisting with workshop planning and delivery
  • Assisting with park counting, master plans, and needs Assessments, and on-site survey projects.

Application Deadlines

  • Summer Interns (June – August): March 31
  • Fall Interns (September – November): June 30
  • Spring Interns (February – April): October 31

  • 1 letter of recommendation from an Professor/Instructor
  • 1 letter of recommendation from a current or previous employer
