On Thursday, June 14, 2012 Texas 4-H Roundup will host its first ever Agricultural Products Identification Walk-Up Contest! The contest will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 4-Her’s and adults are invited to walk through this contest and submit a scantron upon completion. This will be held at the United Spirit Arena on the concourse simultaneously with the Trade Show. This year Roundup will be held at the Texas Tech University.
This contest contains 20 stations. Contestants select the correct identification of each product from four possible answers. Each station also has one multiple choice question pertaining to the product on display. Questions are general to the industry that produced the product, (i.e. Texas’ national ranking, economic impact to Texas, general nutritional content, region of production) and specific to the individual product that is on display.
This contest is a great tool to allow youth to relate these products to what they see in their grocery stores, apply their knowledge outside of the livestock industry, and teach their agricultural product knowledge to those who don’t realize that their produce, meat, fibers all relate to agriculture.
Anyone who wishes to complete may walk up during the hours listed and fill out their best answers. Top scores will be announced at the Thursday night assembly.
