Cropping Systems research centers on the measurement and modeling of factors that affect crop production and management with an emphasis on agricultural sustainability and conservation of agroecosystem resources. Management of agricultural systems is challenging because ecosystems are always changing. Given human impact within the environment, these changes are happening at a rapid pace. To achieve sustainability, management practices must adapt and evolve continually as we increase our understanding of the production/environment interface. Particular interests include: sustainable crop production and management, agricultural water management, crop water use, and irrigation management, carbon sequestration, remote sensing, and crop modeling.
