Summer Camps & Programs
Many of the camps listed take place at the Texas 4-H Conference Center in Brownwood. Texas 4-H Center Youth Programs provide youth with the chance to develop character, learn valuable life skills, make new friends, and discover new interests. Finding the right camp for your child is as important as helping them find the right college! Annually, five or more sessions are offered each summer for youth ages 9 (or completed 2nd grade) to age 18, 4-H membership is NOT required for most camps.
Howard County Goat Camp
When: Normally held in June. Date for 2013 is TBD
Where: Howard College in Big Spring
Cost: $85 per person. Add $20 for a goat to be provided for you if you can’t bring your own.

Poultry Institute for Youth
The Institute is a 3 day enrichment camp for students with an interest in the poultry industry. Students will attend mini-lectures taught by Texas A&M University staff on topics such as anatomy, embryology, immunology, nutrition and processing. Students will also take field trips to a commercial layer facility and a local processing facility.
The Institute is open to students who will be enrolled in the Fall 2013 semester as a high school junior or senior or college freshman.

Cost: The registration fee is $50, which includes a t-shirt and evening activities. Lodging, meals and any other expenses except transportation to and from College Station will be covered by the sponsorship of the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association.

District 9 4-H Leadership Lab
Leadership Lab is for Senior 4-H’ers, (14-19 years old at the time of Lab.) Leadership Lab prepares teen leaders from the 18 counties in District 9 for leadership roles in their club and community. Participants take the knowledge and skills acquired from Leadership Lab and put it to use by sharing it with their club and county.
The lab is set up to be enjoyable and fun, but a certain amount of work is involved. Many workshops are set up that will require concentration and serious participation. Speeches are delivered for officer elections. Recreational time is set up with activities that build team work skills and camaraderie in the district.
This year, charter buses will be provided, with no extra cost. Details on bus stops will be available after the registration period is completed. The registration fee covers 2 nights of lodging, all meals, program activities, insurance, curriculum, and T-shirts. The attire is school appropriate (casual). Each evening there is a dance and many kids want to dress up. However, there are kids who wear summer clothes and each night is a theme dance so costumes are permitted. On the last night there is a banquet for the outgoing officers. The dress for this event is “Dressy.”

District 9 4-H Leadership Lab Website
4-H M.A.S.H. Camp
The Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program and the Texas A&M Health Science Center have partnered to offer M.A.S.H. Camp. The Medical, Activity, Safety and Health Camp provides an opportunity for youth to learn about nutrition, physical activity, health and safety, as well as explore a variety of careers available in the health education field.
The camp is open to youth ages 13-17. Membership in the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program is NOT a requirement for participation in the camp.
Camp highlights include:
· Learn about MyPlate
· Daily exercise experiences
· Food Challenge experience
· Interaction with hospital and emergency medical personnel
· Full emergency triage experience
Camp activities for youth will include:
· Learn how to take vital signs
· Wound and injury care
· Surgical and emergency room procedures
· Dental care
· Medication compounding

This camp takes place at Texas A&M University and is for youth ages 12 to 18. Campers will receive placing instruction on halter and performance, as well as reasons instruction on a personal and group basis.
When: Beginner/Intermediates: June 5-7, 2013 Advanced: June 26-28, 2013
Where: Texas A&M University
Cost: Fees are $290 per participant (includes meals, housing, judging manual, notebook and t-shirt.) Adults, coaches or parents may attend for the same fee. However additional chaperones may or may not be needed. Commuting participants register for $260.

Mission Possible
Mission Possible promotes the involvement of all youth. Youth with and without disabilities or special needs, or who require special accommodations are invited to participate in this unique summer residential camping program. 4-H membership is NOT a requirement.
This camp focuses on each campers’ abilities and not their disabilities. Participants are encouraged to recognize their individual strengths and their own limitations while participating in a safe and fun camp environment.
A well-trained staff of college students, under the direction of Youth Development Professionals, coordinates camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, crafts, sportfishing, climbing and more. 4-H members serve as mentors and are buddied up with special needs campers in all camp activities.

Cost: Camp registration is $175 if it is paid by June 14th. Registrations that take place between June 14-23 include a 5% late fee.

Prime Time
Prime time includes two sessions of camp, one for youth who have completed grades 5-8 and one for youth who have completed grades 2-5. This camp provides participants with opportunities to meet new friends, develop new skills and learn how to work with others.

Cost: Early registration fee is $225, which covers meals, lodging, refreshments, health care services, facility and programming fees. Between June 15 and June 23, a 5% is added to all late registrations.

District 9 4-H Junior Leadership Lab
The objective of Junior Leadership Lab is to prepare intermediate age 4-Hers from the 18 counties in District 9 for leadership roles. These roles might be at the county level or their clubs. The hope is that participants will take information back from lab and share it with members back in their counties. The lab is set up to be enjoyable and fun, but there is work too. The sessions require participant involvement and concentration. Ages 11 to 13 are encouraged to attend. Play time is set up with activities that build team work skills and camaraderie in the district.
