Dr. Tracy Rutherford

Tracy Brick Rutherford is an Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications. Dr. Rutherford received her B.S. in Animal Science from Cornell University, M.A. in Speech Communications from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Leadership from Texas A&M University. She joined the Texas A&M University faculty in December 2002 as an Assistant Professor in agricultural journalism, now agricultural communications and journalism. From 1999 to 2002 she worked as an Assistant Professor in agricultural communications at Kansas State University. Dr. Rutherford’s teaching emphasis is on publication production and electronic media. Her research interests include agricultural communications, visual communication, and media persuasion. She has co-authored numerous publications and conference presentations. In 2006, Dr. Rutherford received The Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award for teaching and received the National FFA Honorary American Degree in 2004. In 2009, Dr. Rutherford received a $460,000 USDA-CSREES Challenge Grant to study the use of Second Life™ to teach crisis communications.
