Clothing & Textiles is one of our most varied project areas, offering experience in fashion construction (and reconstruction!), buying and design. Youth can even dive into the world of business with Harris County’s Houston 4-H CEO Program!

 Explore Harris County 4-H Project Runway activities below:

• Fashion Show Construction & Sewing: Youth learn how they can sew their way on to 4-H Project Runway. Also, set your calendar for the 4-H Sewing days to learn about all you can do with a sewing machine – stay tuned to the Events page!

• Fashion Clothing Buying: a contest that teaches consumer skills when purchasing fashion, looking at not only the best buy for the money, but the best quality.

• Fashion Design/Storyboard: Youth learn how to present a fashion design and gain skills in concept of design, style, and fabric selection. It’s all about drawing out design inspirations!

• Duds To Dazzle: Youth work in teams to ReFashion a clothing item into something new and useful to wear or not to wear. It’s all about creativity!

Sewing Project Days and Workshops

Thanks to the generous donation  made by the Harris County Master Gardeners, we have a wide assortment of fabrics for participants to use for their projects!

We have planned a variety of service projects to put these donations to good use, including: Dresses for Girls Around the World, Cheer Up Pillow Cases for Texas Children’s Hospital, book bags for school kids, and more.  Also, don’t miss the Re-fashion Workshop on January 23 with Dr. Darlene Locke, presenting “Fashion Up-Cycling: Something Old is New Again”. We hope you will join us as we LOVE to sew and GROW!

All events are held at the Harris County Extension Office. Remember there is no fee if you are a member of 4-H! Non- 4-H members can attend for a fee of $25.00 per event.
