IRS Filing for Clubs

It’s that time of year again….time to do our 4-H taxes.  Please read over the following instructions below and attached.  You will need to complete this for each chartered club/group in your county by May 15.

The procedure is the same as last year.  Each club/group, regardless of whether or not they have a bank account, must file a Form 990.  If the group has had less than $25,000 flow through their account in 2010, then they file the 990N postcard online.  If the group has had more than $25,000 flow through their account, then they must file a Form 990 on paper and send in to the IRS.

A page of instructions are attached on how to file the Form 990N Postcard for you to use with your clubs/groups.

Most efforts will likely result in getting the following error message when attempting to get a login:

Error: The employer identification number (EIN) ‘##-#######’ you entered was not found in the IRS list of organizations eligible to file the e-Postcard. You may have entered the EIN incorrectly. If so, please re-enter the EIN and try again. If the EIN you entered is correct and you believe you are required to file the e-Postcard, call IRS Customer Account Services at 877-829-5500 for assistance. For more information, click here.

DO NOT call the IRS and ask them for assistance if you receive this error message.  Simply print the message out, file it away, and you are done.  We do not need a copy of that here at the district office.  File the print-outs and maintain in your central filing system in your office.

The deadline to file is May 15.

If you have questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Derrick
