Saturday, February 13, is the annual East Texas Spring Landscape & Garden Conference at the Tyler Rose Garden Center. One of the featured topics is “From the Garden to the Vase” – floral designing, presented by Jim Johnson, Director of the famed Benz School of Floral Design at Texas A&M. Johnson will teach while designing about 8 arrangements, ranging from traditional types anybody can put together with locally available materials, to a couple that are more modern or abstract. Finished designs will be raffled off, just in time for Valentine’s Day!
Other topics include an update by a panel of horticulturists on what consequences to possibly expect by last month’s prolonged “Big Chill”. While we may not have all the answers, you will understand what to look for and when. Controlling moles, growing vegetables and fruit in the home garden, and sure-fire perennial gardens are some of the other topics at this day-long conference organized by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service – Smith County office. Registration is at the door only for $15, starting at 7:30 a.m., and the programs begin at 8:30 a.m. There will also be exhibitors and a barbeque lunch provided.
