Urban Legislative Event to be Conducted on January 23, 2014

Smith-Lever logoOn January 23, 2014, Texas A&M  AgriLife Extension Service will host an Urban Legislative Interpretation Event at the Texas Capital in Austin. The purpose of this event will be to provide a venue to interpret Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service urban programs to key elected officials.  All urban county and urban initiative counties legislators and their legislative staffs will be invited to participate.  The following will be the schedule  for this event;

  • 11:30 a.m.  Meet, Greet and Eat
  • 12:oo noon Welcome and Introductions
  • 12:05 p.m. Remarks by Dr. Steele
  • 12:15 p.m. Instructions for Food Challenge
  • 12:25 p.m. Food Challenge Begins
  • 12:55 p.m. Judging and Presentation of Awards
  • 1:00 p.m. Adjourn

The following are some steps that should be taken to enhance participation and the effectiveness of this event;

  1. Make follow up phone calls to confirm participation.
  2. Send names of the legislators or staff who have confirmed their participation.
  3. The week of the event:  Make personal contact as a final reminder.

This and other types of approaches clearly demonstrates leadership and vision on the part of our Field Management.
