Cross and McGrann recognized by BEEF magazine as two of beef industry’s top 50 leaders
Dr. H. Russell Cross, professor and head of the department of animal science at Texas A&M University, and Dr. Jim McGrann, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service professor emeritus, have been recognized by BEEF magazine as two of the top 50 beef industry leaders in the United States.

Bhimu Patil gets Distinguished Service Award from American Chemical Society
Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of the Texas A&M University Vegetable and Fruit Improvement Center, has received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Chemical Society’s Division of Agriculture and Food Chemistry.
Mr. Kyle Smith Retires from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service
Mr. Kyle Smith, executive associate director for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, is among those retired on August 31 after a long and illustrious Extension career. Kyle has more than 40 years of service in several different capacities. In recognition of Kyle’s dedication and leadership Extension administration hosted a reception on August 30, 2013, at the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan, Texas.
Dr. David Caldwell Named Poultry Science Department Head
Congratulations to Dr. David J. Caldwell who has been approved as the new department head of poultry science. Dr. Caldwell has served as a faculty member in the department for more than 15 years in both research and teaching roles and an emphasis on industry outreach.
Dr. Ping He receives National Science Foundation CAREER grant
Dr. Ping He, a biochemist with Texas A&M AgriLife Research in College Station, has been awarded more than $1 million from the National Science Foundation to further his studies on how a host plant defends against pathogen attacks.
Bob Avant and Dr. Brock Faulkner reappointed to USDA Agricultural Air Quality Task Force
U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the renewal of USDA’s Agricultural Air Quality Task Force and the selection of its members for the 2013-2015 term. The task force is composed of representatives from industry, agriculture, academia, government agencies, non-governmental organizations and other agricultural and environmental experts.
