Hay Testing Campaign

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bandera County will be hosting a Hay Testing Campaign that will run September 1-30th. Below are the specific guidelines for participating in the campaign.

 

  1. Stop by the Extension Office, 2886 Hwy. 16 N to pick up a sample bag(s) and instructions.
  2. Collect and return samples to the Extension Office no later than September 30th. Individuals may submit either baled or standing forage samples. All grasses will be accepted to include bermudagrass, bluestems, kleingrass, mixed grasses, ect… Forage sorghums/sudangrass and legumes such as clover and alfalfa will also be accepted.
  3. Samples will be analyzed for Protein, ADF, NDF, TDN and an estimate of digestibility. Samples will be run at a reduced rate ($2.50/sample) thanks to the support of the Extension Ag/NR Committee. A maximum of 5 samples may be submitted by each producer or ranch.
  4. Results from the campaign will be made available at an educational program Thursday, October 29th from 10-12 noon at the Mansfield Park Rec Center.

 

Understanding livestock nutritional demands and hay quality is the first step to developing a cost effective supplementation program. Take advantage of this opportunity and use the results as a tool when marketing or purchasing hay.
