Water Workshops Right Around the Corner!

BANDERA – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will partner with the Bandera County River Authority & Groundwater District to present the five-part 2015 Bandera Water Workshops series over the coming months.

Sponsors of the program include Bandera Electric Cooperative, Inc., the Ranchers and Landowners Association of Texas and Hill Country Alliance.

Workshop specifics are as follows:

– Aquaponic Potential, 10 a.m.-3:15 p.m., May 9, at the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District, office and gardens, 440 FM 3240, Bandera Texas, registration is $15 to cover meal. Topics and speakers will include; Aquaponics 101, and System Build Workshop with Patti Taylor and Josh Goode, respectively, both with the San Antonio Aquaponic and Transfarming Group.

– Residential Water Conservation, 6-8 p.m., May 12, Mansfield Park Recreation Center, 2886 Hwy 16 N. Bandera Texas, registration is $15 to cover meal. Topics and speakers will include; Landscape Irrigation and Greywater use, Dr. Calvin Finch, Director of the Urban Water Program for the Texas A&M Institute of Renewable Natural Resources in San Antonio, Domestic Conservation Techniques with the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District, and Native Plant Selection and Raingardens with Native American Seed.

– Agricultural Water Conservation, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., June 3, Mansfield Park Recreation Center, registration is $15 to cover meal. Topics and speakers will include; Healthy Streams Program with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Specialists and Riparian Health Field Visit with Sky Lewey Resource Protection and Education Director for the Nueces River Authority.

– Abandoned Well Education and Plugging, 6-7:30 p.m., Aug. 11, Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District office, no charge. Topics to be offered by the district include Abandoned Well Education and Abandoned Well Plugging Video.

– Rainwater Potential, 8 a.m.-noon, Aug. 22, Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District office. Cost is $80 per person. Topics will include Rainwater Harvesting 101 and Rainwater Catchment System Build with the Rainwater School.

Pesticide Continuing Education Units will be offered as follows: Residential Water Conservation, May 12th – 1.5 hrs General; Agricultural Water Conservation, June 3rd – 3 hrs (2 General, 1 Integrated Pest Management); Abandoned Well Education and Plugging, Aug. 11th – 1 hr Laws and Regulations; Rainwater Potential, Aug. 22nd – 1.5 hrs of General
