Beekeeping Basics

BANDERA – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be hosting a Beekeeping Basics Workshop from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Mansfield Park Recreation Center, 2886 Highway 16 N in Bandera.

“The number of calls coming into the office related to bees in general is staggering,” said Sam Womble, AgriLife Extension agent for Bandera County. “And now that individuals can obtain agricultural valuation from beekeeping, that adds another dimension to the growing interest in bees.”

Womble said workshop topics and presenters will be

— Agricultural Appraisal/Ag Valuation, Wendy Grams, chief appraiser, Bandera County Appraisal District.

— Getting Started in Beekeeping: Laws and Regulations, ID and Management of Pests, Molly Keck, AgriLife Extension program specialist, integrated pest management and board certified entomologist.

— Preserving and Marketing Honey, Stacy Teston, AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent, Bandera County.

The program will offer two continuing education units — 0.5 in laws and regulations, 0.5 in integrated pest management and one general — for individuals with a Texas Department of agriculture pesticide applicators license.

Registration is $15 per person, and includes program materials and refreshments.
