DIRECTOR, TEXAS AGRILIFE EXTENSION SERVICE
The Texas A&M University System
The Search for a Director of Texas AgriLife Extension Service was initiated by Vice Chancellor for Agriculture and Life Sciences Mark Hussey on November 23, 2011 with the appointment of a Search Advisory Committee.
The search will progress through a series of open and closed phases:
- At the onset, the search advisory committee will outline the qualifications and important qualities, attributes and characteristics of the position and will begin identifying and seeking a diverse pool of potential candidates. The search process will be relatively open [e.g., time schedule and notes from meetings will be posted on the search website, etc…].
- Once the search committee begins identifying and receiving nominations/applications, and assessing the credentials of prospective candidates, its work will be held in strict confidence.
- Following a thorough review, the search advisory committee will narrow the pool of candidates and present an unranked list of no more than 5 candidates to Vice Chancellor Hussey. The Vice Chancellor will identify final candidates to be invited for official interviews.
- The Search Advisory Committee will host final candidates for a 2-3 day interview to AgriLife Extension’s State Headquarters in College Station. Each candidate will be invited to present a seminar. Interviews will include opportunities for participation by all appropriate constituencies and will include a site visit to at least one [1] AgriLife Research and Extension Center/Urban Center [pending – to be determined].
- Following the candidate interviews, the final stage of the Director’s Search will be strictly confidential. An appropriate opportunity will be identified to solicit input from on- and off-campus faculty, staff, administrators and external constituents following the interviews. After considering feedback from all those who participated in the candidate interviews and further review/debate, the Search Advisory Committee will present Vice Chancellor Hussey with a summary of strengths and limitations for each candidate, as well as a summary of faculty input.
- The Vice Chancellor for Agriculture and Life Sciences will make the final recommendation in identifying a sole finalist for the position of Director. The Vice Chancellor will present the recommendation to the Chancellor. The Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System will then present the candidate to the Board of Regents for its approval.
